iDiaspora was initially conceived as a vehicle through which diaspora communities could share their concerns, hopes & ideas during the consultation process for the Global Compact for Migration. During initial consultations w/diaspora communities & other partners, it became clear to the iDiaspora team that there was a wider appetite for something more meaningful through the platform. iDiaspora is a community driven digital venue, facilitated by IOM, designed to empower diaspora engagement in the 21st century. iDiaspora’s vision is to be the go-to venue for diaspora engagement & knowledge, now & into the future. iDiaspora will provide interactive & easy access to global connections, content & commentary on diaspora engagement. Designed as an evolving space, the platform will actively seek to develop a portfolio of products to develop diaspora engagement. Volunteers will directly contribute to expanding the reach of the iDiaspora Platform & building its online community by generating content of interest w/c can then be shared through social media to general interest & drive traffic toward the platform while providing the volunteer an opportunity to generate visibility for their work.

Volunteers are invited to be creative however keep always in mind the objective, identity, and terms of use of the platform. We expect each Online Volunteer to create one piece of content per week. Online Volunteers will need to create their own accounts on the Platform in order to interact with it independently as needed. Furthermore, Online Volunteers will be encouraged to share the new content they generate on social media to relevant groups and networks.
